THIRD PLACE / SECONDARY BATH
Crystal & Stone
For this project, the homeowner requested that the space be
functional, distinctive, and artistic. Making the room feel large
was an important consideration for the design layout. To achieve
a broad visual footprint and an open feel, everything floats off
the floor.
Formerly, there were two separate rooms without windows. Now,
the skylight lets in natural light and fresh air. With a solar-powered
remote, rain triggers the skylight to close. A wall-hung vanity was
installed, with glass laminated panels and doors. Fabric was
laminated in the glass for a one-of-kind look. The countertop and
sink are molded from a single piece of glass, and a high-arc faucet
enhances the sleek look of the vanity. Above, sconces that look like
rock crystals adorn either side of a recessed medicine cabinet with
large mirror. All of these features were chosen to increase the open
feel of the bathroom.
Keeping with the plan, a wall-hung toilet was used – it includes a
washlet with an array of automatic features such as a night light,
auto flush, and more. The floor, including the shower, is always
warm thanks to in-floor heating. Wall-hung cabinets flank the end
wall for linens and extra storage.
An enjoyable feature of the generously sized shower is a folding
bench – the seat can be positioned up or down as needed with
ease. A hand shower and shower controls are conveniently close, to
use while sitting. The bench is teak (warm to sit on, and easy to care
for). A convenient niche with shelves is useful. The shower door is
wide for easy access, with curb-less entry and an infinity drain to
blend the floor seamlessly with the rest of the space.
All of the finishes are distinctive. The Zebrano Marble accent
walls have striking vein-cut attributes. The countertops are glass.
The porcelain floor tiles mimic leather. The wall tile has a unique
geometric pattern that complements the other materials. The
cabinet doors are glass "infused" and laminated with silk-like fabric.
The owners didn't want "ordinary," and they now have function that
is distinctive and artistic.
