APRIL 2023 R ETAI LOBSE RVE R.COM 39 RO PEOPLE'S PICK BATHROOM Artist's Retreat This bathroom/bedroom suite is a true artist's retreat. The homeowner is an attorney by day, but her true passion is creating unique and colorful works of art. She wanted their primary bedroom suite to reflect a clean and contemporary gallery-type feeling, while adding the functionality she needed for daily use of the space. She requested to increase her closet space as well as add a soaking tub; however, the square footage of the bedroom suite could not be expanded, thus creating a challenge of adding function and additional storage within the existing space. A wet room was created consisting of a soaking tub and shower positioned behind a floor-to-ceiling Starphire glass panel. A wall-hung commode was specified to further open-up the visual floor space of the wet room while also reinforcing the clean lines of the design. The wet room is anchored by a custom mosaic tile backwall featuring the client's own artwork. The vanity and closet space, which is accessed directly off of the main bedroom, needed to flow cohesively with the desired white and gold color scheme. High-gloss white cabinetry and a crisp white quartz countertop mesh beautifully with the satin gold fixtures, hardware, lighting, and sliding closet door frames. Custom mirrored cabinets maximize every square inch of storage space above the vanity top while doubling as a functional three-way mirror. Mirrored recessed storage cabinets were also positioned above the commode and behind the full-length mirror for jewelry storage. Satin glass and acrylic panels were back-painted and inserted into brushed brass frames to conceal the carefully positioned closet cabinetry. LED lighting was positioned in the toe kick, behind the closet sliding doors and in the newly designed bedroom tray ceiling. The renovated space creates a calming retreat while maximizing storage and function. Most important, it reflects the unique and creative client giving her a space that is truly one of a kind.
