BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ELECTED BY THE PUBLIC AND RESPONSIBLE FOR SETTING POLICY Sincerely, Paul Minx, President, Board of Park Commissioners Register at mortongroveparks.com | 2023-2024 Winter Activity Guide 3 Greetings everyone, While the winter season may bring colder temperatures and shorter days, it also opens new opportunities for outdoor and indoor recreation. Our parks and facilities are ready to offer you a variety of activities to keep you and your family engaged and healthy throughout the season. This guide is your resource for all the great things we offer this winter. Whether you enjoy sledding, ice skating, snowshoeing, or simply taking a brisk walk through the winter wonderland, our parks provide the perfect setting for these activities. Visit our website or contact us to learn more about the winter programs and activities available for residents of all ages. Staying active during the winter is not only essential for physical health but can also improve your mental well-being. Regular exercise can help combat the winter blues, boost your energy levels, and increase your resilience. We encourage you to explore our range of recreational options and fi nd what suits you best. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned enthusiast, there is something for everyone in our community. The park district has completed its Local Government Effi ciency Act, that requires local governments to establish special committees to study their own effi ciencies and then submit a report to their county board. The Morton Grove Park District completed their report this past October. The report includes the study of the District's governing statutes, ordinances, rules, procedures, jurisdiction, shared services, intergovernmental agreements, and interrelationships with other local governments and the State. The full report can be found on our website at mortongroveparks.com. Over the last couple of years, the District has pursued grant opportunities with the State of Illinois. We have two grants we are waiting to hear if they will be funded. The fi rst is a Park and Recreational Facility Construction grant. This grant would help fund an expansion of the Prairie View Community Center which would include two full sized gymnasiums and a walking track. The second is an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development grant for the renovations to Palma Lane Park. Some improvements, but not all, include a new playground, resurfaced basketball court, an expanding walking path around the park, and a nature area along the south end of the park. The District expects to hear a decision on each very soon. We will keep you posted. Thank you for being an integral part of our vibrant community. We look forward to serving you and making your winter experience a memorable one.
