Punxsutawney Phil predicts spring is just around the corner. Even though summer is still months away, the staff at the park district has been working diligently in planning and organizing programs and events for the summer. The Board and staff of the park district is excited to announce we have received an Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grant from the State of Illinois for the renovations at Palma Lane Park. This grant program provides up to 50% funding assistance to rehabilitate public outdoor recreation areas. Last year, staff conducted several community engagements with neighbors of the park to determine what they wanted to see for the park. The just over $700,000 in renovations, see below, include a loop walking path, new playground, ADA improvements, ballfi eld improvements, a shelter, nature play area, and a pollinator garden. The District will also begin construction of Oketo Park's renovations this spring. This project is also part of an OSLAD grant from 2022. The investment of $796,000 will enable the district to make the following improvements, to the park; ballfi eld improvements, tree walk, new playground, resurfacing the basketball court, nature play area, shelter, and pollinator garden. We love to hear from our residents about their thoughts, concerns, or wishes. We are here to serve and will listen to anyone who would like to express themselves. We hold our monthly meeting on the third Wednesdays of the month. All meetings are open to the public and attendees are given opportunities to speak to the board and staff . If you prefer, you can send an email to the whole board via board@mgparks.com. We hope to hear from you, and we'll see you in the park.
