I encourage everyone to have at least one role model or mentor in their life. It's important to note that while a female mentor can provide specific support and guidance relative to gender-related challenges, the qualities of a mentor, such as expertise, experience, and a genuine interest in the mentee's success, are also vital. Ultimately, the ideal mentor would possess both professional knowledge and the ability to relate personally and offer support. Highlighting successful women in technology and their achievements allows them to serve as role models and inspirations for aspiring women in the field. By showcasing diverse representation and success stories, more women can envision themselves pursuing careers in technology. National Mentoring Month serves as a reminder that anyone can make a difference in the life of a young person through mentoring. By getting involved, individuals can positively impact the lives of mentees, contribute to their personal and career growth, and help create a brighter future for the next generation. Volunteer to become a mentor or mentee and create a more equitable and inclusive ICT industry. Still need a New Year's Resolution? Grow your network and volunteer to be a part of the BICSI MENTORSHIP PROGRAM. Apply to be a BICSI mentor or mentee, or contact Heather Randolph at MENTORSHIP@BICSI.ORG. Share Your Story with Women in BICSI We want to hear from women in the ICT industry. Please consider submitting your brief story, anecdote, or advice for a future "More than Words" column.
