If the joint is insecure, the monocopter may break apart in flight and send pieces in all directions, which could create a safety hazard. 1. Sand inside the motor mount slot and edge of the wing to "rough it up." 2. Dry fit the parts and make sure there is a tight fit. If there are burrs, or the wing and motor mount do not fit to- gether, sand the edges between the slot and wing a bit. You may have to apply force on the wing to affix the wing in the slot, as it is a tight fit. Ensure the hole in the wing aligns with the hole in the motor mount. Aer the dry fit, separate the parts. 3. Using a good grade, very thick epoxy, apply a very liberal layer to the inside edges of the slot for the wing and to the end of the wing that gets inserted into the slot (Figure 6). 4. Slide the wing into the slot. 5. Align the hole. Check the alignment from both the motor mount's top and bottom. 6. Apply additional epoxy on the top and bottom sides of the joint. 7. Wearing a nitrile glove, form a wide bead to the joint between the motor mount and the wing on both sides with your finger. A popsicle stick works too (Figure 7). 8. Support while drying so that the wing does not slide under gravity. 9. You will likely need to drill out the launch rod hole, as epoxy may have oozed between the parts into the cav- ity. For best results, use a 13/32-inch drill bit and bore out the hole aer the epoxy is firm but before it is complete- ly cured. Be careful while drilling; the part may catch on a drill bit flute and start spinning. Another tip is to start with a smaller bit and successively work up to 13/32-inch size. Figure 5.
