MULTIMODAL
• Flexibilit y for market changes . Con su mer
preferences a nd m a rket t rend s ca n ch a nge
rapidly. A multimodal manufacturing facility
equips an organization with the agility to swiftly
adapt to shifting demands and evolving market
landscapes.
• Supply chain resilience. Having multiple man-
ufacturing options in-house can enhance supply
chain resilience and minimize potential risks
associated with timing, especially for certain
autologous cell therapy products. If one manufac-
turing process faces disruptions or supply chain
challenges, pivoting to another mode ensures a
consistent supply of products.
• Innovation and product dif ferentiation. A
multimodal facility allows for the integration
of i n n o v a t i v e m a nu f a c t u r i n g t e c h n i q u e s ,
which can lead to the development of unique
and differentiated products. This can provide

manufacturing capabilities.
This facility design approach must focus on the
specific facility attributes previously discussed. The
following example illustrates a few layout scenarios.
Oligo. For an oligo manufacturing area (Figure 2), a
key concern as mentioned is the use of solvents. This
points to a layout where key equipment will be placed

mRNA is messenger RNA. LNP is lipid nanoparticle. CNC/NC is controlled non-
classified/non-classified.
