Sowell's venture began in 2010, fueled by a simple yet profound idea:
offering no-cost fishing trips. "It was enjoyable to me to take people fishing
that hadn't spent much time on the water," he recalls. His generosity extends
to active or retired military personnel, first responders, disabled individuals,
and children's groups.
Veterans hold a special place in John's heart. His trips oen serve to honor
their military achievements or to provide a peaceful escape for those baling
PTSD. "Fishing brings everyone together," John explains. "One day on the
water is so healing, so therapeutic."
John and his wife Lynda have always been active in their community.
John dedicated 26 years as a police officer in Great Falls and served in the
Montana Army National Guard. Lynda has contributed significantly through
her roles on various organizational boards, and together, they have fostered
42 children over the years. "She understands that we have a purpose to do
this for our community. And she is very supportive," Sowell adds.
In 2017, John branded his venture as Fishin' 4 All and briefly considered
operating it as a non-profit. Ultimately, he chose to keep it as a public
service. "Our pay is these people's joy," says John. "I've never had a bad trip."
With the trolling motor remote in hand, Sowell guides the boat from memory to the next fishing hole.
