Evanston — This kitchen renovation in a
1910 Evanston, Illinois home seamlessly blends
modern functionality with historic charm. By
opening the layout and introducing natural light, we
created a spacious, inviting environment for the
homeowners' love of cooking. Dark custom oak
cabinetry, hammered brass hardware, and honed
white countertops respect the home's original
Prairie style while integrating modern appliances for
a contemporary touch. The result is a harmonious,
timeless space that connects past and present. The
goal was to create a warm and modern space that
is functional to the homeowner's cooking style.
Design Solutions:
• We created a custom stain that matched the
other hardwoods in the home so that the kitchen
would integrate into the historic home.
• Strategic placement of the separate refrigerator
column and freezer drawers was essential to the
homeowner (they rarely use the freezer except for
cocktails).
• A vast counter space allows them to prepare and
cook meals together.
Special Features:
• Made-to-order hammered brass hardware for
the cabinetry.
• Textured leather fronts at the wet bar.
• Custom rift-cut white oak with a matching stain
to the existing millwork throughout the historic
home.
• A high-pressure laminated hood with faux-metal
accents, mitered joints (which were deemed
nearly impossible to do).
