17 Fundamental to making disciples in the political arena is teaching the Word of God. It is the irreducible mini- mum in effective ministry. Capitol Ministries accomplishes that goal through weekly sit-down Bible stud- ies. Bible studies are delivered in person by experienced ministry leaders, many of whom are pastors with seminary training. ese expository teachers prepare studies using exegetical methods with a goal of re- vealing and applying biblical truth. e word "exegesis" comes from the Greek word exegeisthai, which means to explain or to interpret. Exegetical teach- ing involves discovering the true meaning of the Scripture with respect to grammar, syntax, cultural context, and the set- ting. e process involves studying the passage to interpret the author's intended meaning, correlating how the Scripture relates to the rest of the Bible, and determining how the Scripture should be applied to a believer's life. Studies oen examine one book of the Bible at a time, verse by verse, and could take a year or more to complete. As the Bi- ble directs, we teach the whole purpose of God (Acts 20:27) and do not avoid biblical topics that are unpopular or controversial in today's society. In our week- ly studies, ministry leaders drill down deeply so public servants will develop a biblical worl- dview that will serve them well in their personal lives, as well as in their decisions as policy makers. Legislators and constitutional of- ficers participate in the legislative studies. Separate studies are created for staff. Local city and county public ser- vants use Bible studies from Ralph Drollinger's book, Oaks in Office: Es- sential Bible Studies for Political Lead- ers. ey provide a steady diet of sound biblical doctrine and are among the most pertinent studies that Ralph has written for public servants over the course of decades. e studies help to create a strong spiritual founda- tion, shape character, and aid the public servant as he matures in the Faith. e ministry objective is to create mighty oaks in office—men and women whose roots are grounded in Scripture, which will enable them to stand strong in God's Word amid the winds of political adversity.
