"I like looking and searching and finding new products,"saysTucker. "If you have something no one else can get, they're going to have to get it from you." To stay ahead of the trends, one of the places she frequents is Forty One Madison—a retail mecca for all things tabletop. Located only 20 short blocks away from Tucker's Manhattan apartment, its 23 floors and the more than 80 manufacturers that reside there is an irresistible draw for a lover of tabletop. Tucker was hooked the first day reps walked her through the various product categories. "That's when I fell in love with tabletop,"she says."It's like art.You literally can see your ideas and your vision take shape on a tabletop." Two to three times a week, she darts off to Forty One to browse, to glean, to meet with clients. The endless walls of china make for an impressive backdrop for a first meeting."I do love having the building as a daily tool," says Tucker. "The Sambonet showroom is on the ground floor, so I always stop there first. Oneida,Libbey and Cardinal are my usual suspects. If I have some time, I always stop by Villeroy and Boch because what they're doing with their retail side always shows me what's to come in foodservice." For inspiration, she travels to the 21st floor. That's where Cardinal International is located."Every time I walk into the showroom, I stare at this creative chandelier of stemware they have and reminisce about Hurricane Sandy," says Tucker."When the building was shaking and the chandelier was swaying, I thought,'There's no way this beauty will hold up.'"When I'm discouraged or have some extra time, I visit the chandelier. I love that it's standing strong!"
