The Frieze of American History in the Capitol Rotunda depicts nineteen scenes in American history. Begun in 1878 by Constantino Brumidi, it was continued after his death in 1880 by Filippo Costaggini; Allyn Cox completed a 31-foot gap in the frieze in 1953.
