18 July 2014 Tablets & Capsules Silicified microcrystalline cellulose Prosolv silicified microcrystalline cellu- lose imparts excellent flow, compaction, and matrix dispersion to tablet formula- tions. It can replace granulation steps when used in direct compression for- mulations and reduce quantity of excip- ients required. High-functionality excipient requires less complex process- ing, improves compaction and produc- tion capacity, and can speed formula- tion development. JRS Pharma, Patterson, NY. Co-processed excipients' natural guar gum coating provides pleasant mouth-feel to chewable tablets by masking chalkiness and grittiness asso- ciated with calcium excipients. Com- pany also supplies A-Tab, Di-Tab, and Tri-Tab di- and tricalcium phosphates. Innophos, Cranberry, NJ. Low viscosity (2 to 2.9 millipascal-seconds @ 20°C and 2 percent aq) allows rapid disin- tegration and dissolution compared to other grades of HPC, while its fine (20- micron) particles allow low use levels to achieve desired tablet properties for which HPC is well known. Compared to common dry binders, excipient produces harder tablets and lower friability without hindering API release. HPC can be used with direct-compression immediate-release tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, roller- compacted/dry granulations, HPMC matrix tablets (hardness enhancement), and poorly compressible APIs. It can also assist binding of high-API-loaded tablets, reduce tablet size, and minimize capping. Nisso America, New York, NY.
