ness, the success of Jamex, Inc. can be traced to the vision of Jim and Connie Wells, who started their niche market enterprise in an upstairs bedroom of their Ithaca, N.Y. (U.S.) home in 1981. Those humble beginnings have evolved into a sizable space just a few miles from that home with over two dozen employees. "We are a dealer-centered business, specializing in access solutions and self-service payment systems for copiers, network printers and the like," says the founders' son, and Director of Marketing, Jamie Wells. Wells indicated that while the bulk of their business is domestic they do have many international business clients as well. "We ship as far west as Australia and as far east as Israel." While the economy has taken its toll on many businesses, Wells said Jamex tends not to follow the swings of the national economy like other companies do. "People are watching costs, and selling a product that pays for itself is pretty easy to do."
But what makes Jamex successful? "People appreciate the way we do business," Wells says describing their suc- cess as a three-point approach – fast, accurate pre-sales answers, immediate ship- ping, and superior post-sales tech support. "First, we are always straightforward," he says. "We always have people
answering the phone and providing fast, accurate answers. Second, we always have our products in stock." The buying cycle for end users of this equipment can be extraordinarily long. However, once that end user makes their decision, resellers need to put their hands on that equipment immediately which is what Jamex provides. "And lastly, support. Not only pre-sale but the post-sale tech support. We have
always received exceptionally high marks from our reseller base for the way that we support their technicians," Wells concluded.
