MORE GOOD STUFF Just before leaving for my last African trip, I picked up a neat, very lightweight jacket from a company that was unknown to me. Nonetheless, it seemed so useful that I decided to give it a try. Made of merino wool, the zip-front jacket is hardly thicker than a cotton shirt. Produced by a company named Icebreakers, the Sierra Long Sleeved Zip kept me warm during the morning chill but as the day heated up, I could stow it away easily in my pack or even in a large pocket. In fact, it worked so well that it became part of my standard equipment during my two months in southern Africa. Because the jacket is so light, I expected it to be quite fragile. Boy, was I wrong! It turned out to be extremely durable and showed absolutely no wear from months of constant use. I usually don't recommend anything until it has suffered years of use and abuse at my hands. This little jacket is the exception, simply because it's just plain good. Check out the company's products at us. icebreaker.com.
