Greetings from the President Dear Student: Salem Community College celebrates its 40th anniversary during the 2011-2012 academic year. Therefore, it is fitting to reflect on SCC's accomplishments and strategically plan for the future. SCC is certainly not the same institution today as when I arrived 14 years ago. Enrollment has grown significantly as new programs have been introduced and existing programs have been retooled to prepare students for 21st century jobs. Technology-based services such as the SCC Self-Service Portal have been implemented to make the College more user-friendly. Expanded facilities and partnerships have brought unprecedented opportunities for our students. As far as the College has progressed over 40 years, I believe the best years are ahead. It is for this reason: SCC is much more than a College. You are joining a special community of dedicated faculty, staff and students. That community extends to our partners in business, education and government that support our programs. I encourage you to take advantage of every opportunity to excel – both in the classroom and through extra-curricular activities. And like me, you will reflect upon your Salem Community College years with appreciation, having been part of this extraordinary learning community. Sincerely, Vision Provide personal planning, support and educational opportunities that empower everyone to achieve their full potential. Mission Salem Community College believes in the value of education and that your success is our success. Our commitment is to meet the ever-changing needs of our diverse community by providing accessible and affordable educational experiences in a dynamic learning environment that incorporates standards of excellence. Diversity Statement Salem Community College recognizes its responsibility and commitment to foster an environment of respect, understanding and tolerance among all individuals and groups, with sensitivity for those likely to experience disrespect, abuse and misunderstanding because of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, economic status, or mental or physical challenges. SCC is fully accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. 6 2011-2012 Salem Community College Catalog Peter B. Contini, Ed.D. President
