Heart of the
Matter
In May, the story of Carson-Newman
senior Christian Cummins caught the
eye of news media around the region.
The English and communication
studies double-major suffered a
heart attack in November 2013
and underwent a heart transplant
the following April at Vanderbilt
University Medical Center. It was her
second transplant, having undergone
her first at the age of two weeks.
Throughout the chain of events,
Cummins was determined to return
to campus to take part in Spring
Commencement. On May 9, her
hopes came to fruition.
