46 January 2015 Tablets & Capsules
Blister tester measures force needed to open package
CT3 texture analyzer adapts to quantify force needed to expel tablet or capsule from
blister packaging. After sample is placed on support fixture (close-up, right), finger-
like probe descends to exert pressure, expelling tablet or capsule from foil side of
package. Probe and support fixture set up to match size and shape of product and
blister. Texture analyzer also performs compression and tension tests to determine
force required to split hard capsules; adhesive force of tablet coatings; strength of
bi-layer tablet bond; how well tablets adhere to mucosal surfaces, and more.
Optional TexturePro CT software generates custom reports and graphs.

Excipient blend simplifies
production of effervescent tablets
Sorb-Cel co-processed, direct-
compression base contains all ingre -
dients needed to impart effervescent
properties to tablets, granules, and
powders. It is easy to use; simply blend
with API. Its ingredients—mannitol,
povidone, citric acid, and sodium bi -
carbonate, and choice of poly ethylene
glycol or sorbitol—are typical of
effervescent additives, making base easy
to register and substitute into existing
formulations without major label
changes. Base is compatible with
common actives (vitamin C, calcium,
acetaminophen, etc.), and is free of
lactose and sugar.
