Tablets & Capsules April 2015 33 A survey of what's available Blister and capsule testing CT3 texture analyzer adapts to quantify force needed to expel tablet or capsule from blister packaging (left). It also performs compression and tension tests to determine force required to rupture hard capsules (right); adhesive force of tablet coatings; strength of bi-layer tablet bond; how well tablets adhere to mucosal surfaces, and more. For blister test- ing, sample is placed on support fixture, and finger-like probe descends and exerts pressure, expelling tablet or capsule from foil side of package. Probe and support fixture set up to match size and shape of product and blister. Optional TexturePro CT software generates custom reports and graphs. Brookfield Engineering, Middleboro, MA. Spectra allow you to measure solid-phase transitions and crystalline/amorphous composi- tion; imaging experiments allow you to determine the strength properties of coatings and multilayer interfaces of tablets. Applications include monitoring change of scale of film coating process by measuring film density and strength. It uses all-electronic, fiber-optic architecture to boost speed and reliability. Magnet extracts ferrous metals and work- hardened stainless steel from dilute-phase conveying lines and gravity chutes as large as 6 inches in diameter. Spherical magnet removes easily from housing and comes with clean- ing station to remove collected metal. Aerodynamic shape minimizes pressure drop to prevent blockages; area of gap between magnet and pipeline is similar to cross-sectional area of pipe. Separator conforms with HACCP International Food Safety Standard 0909MAGSEP 1-2010. Powder-Solutions, Chanhassen, MN. Tel. 877 236 3539 www.powder-solutions.com
