Cover Story Implementing interventions. TalentCorp directly implements interventions for certain catalytic initiatives, such as administering the Returning Expert Programme targeted at bringing back top Malaysian professionals who are based abroad. TalentCorp's focus on enhancing talent availability is anchored by three so-called strategic thrusts. Strategic Thrust 1: Optimise Malaysian Talent TalentCorp places a high priority on Malaysian talent, which is clearly the most important and sustainable source of talent to meet the needs of the nation. In pursuit of developing a sustainable pipeline of top local talent to meet industry needs, TalentCorp will focus on: • Raising career awareness. The goal here is particularly to ensure that young talent are provided with up-to-date, industry-driven information on exciting and high income career opportunities within key priority sectors. • Enhancing school-to-work transition. This initiative seeks to provide students with early exposure to a working environment through internships and "upskilling" programmes. • Building platforms to optimise talent. This effort aims to develop initiatives to address talent availability at all levels, such as promoting policies to enhance the workforce participation rate of women. Strategic Thrust 2: Attract and Facilitate Global Talent Global talent encompasses the Malaysian diaspora and foreign talent. The focus will be towards those who can effectively complement existing Malaysian talent and address critical skill gaps. In pursuit of engaging and facilitating global talent, TalentCorp contemplates three primary initiatives. • Outreach programmes to Malaysians abroad are aimed at connecting with and engaging Malaysian professionals and young students abroad, through a combination of career fairs and sector-specific networking sessions. • Facilitation of returning talent will be prioritised through targeted incentives for top Malaysian professionals; this includes the Returning Expert Programme (REP). • Expatriate facilitation is being targeted by efforts to create a more supportive policy environment for top global talent and to enhance service delivery in meeting expatriate requirements of leading employers. Strategic Thrust 3: Build Networks of Top Talent Networks allow access to, and facilitate the engagement of, talent as job opportunities arise. Towards this end, TalentCorp will drive various initiatives. • Building networks of future leaders through platforms such exchange programmes and cross mentoring between high potentials in the public and private sector. • Developing the networking platforms for Malaysian diaspora to enable companies to tap into established networks of talent by key sectors and geographies. Strategic Thrust 2: AJract & Facilitate Global Talent In the global race for talent, we need to compete to aJract, retain, and grow the best.
