While Alberta's Bow River slows a bit as it moves from mountains to prairie, the trout fishing can turn fast and furious. I Fishing By Larry Chesney with Eric's Silvertip Outfitters on the Athabasca River north of Fort McMurray. Two decades later we were shaking hands in the lobby of the Delta Calgary South Hotel, ready for a few hadn't laid eyes on Eric Grinnell in nearly 20 years. At that time I was working on my first Sporting Classics feature, a bear hunt days of trout fishing on the Bow River. My wife Kathy had come along, excited about her first opportunity to try her hand at flyfishing. It had been awhile since I cast a fly, and with some of the longish casting required on the lower Bow, Eric had us "in training" shortly after arriving at his river-side tent camp. T his sequence begins with Bow River Guide Eric Grinnell netting the author's 23-inch brown trout, which posed for just one photo before thrashing wildly and flopping back into the river.
