During the catered reception on March 9, an overall People's Choice winner is announced, and Embark gives cash awards to the vote winners. Also, the same judges decide award winners for the first- through fourth-place submissions in the Young Masters Out West Show. McCamley says, "Those kids get some really nice (mon- etary) awards, which are given Friday (March 17, 2017) at the Out West Show." Young Masters 2016 award winners were: First Place $400, Jared Parkinson, Power High School, 'High King,' Graphite; Second Place $300, Sonora Winters, Great Falls High School, 'Still Life,' Paper and China Marker; Third Place $200, Julie Gremeaux, C.M. Russell High School, 'A Fish Swimming in a School of Words,' Cut Paper on Canvas; and, Fourth Place Tie, $100 each, MacKenzie Nice, C.M. Professional artists donate their time to teach a 1-1/2-hour class of artistic tech- niques on Thursday, March 16. Work space on the Sun Terrace is used for teaching up to 100 students. McCamley says, "We get people who come by (the second-floor location) all the time just to watch." Embark's commitment to Young Masters that day also includes providing grant money to provide supplies for the class and student busing to the event. To pique student interest, Young Masters also awards help to schools through its Classroom Assistance Program, which, through grant funding, provides needed art supplies and coor- dinates having professional artists visit the classroom. Whether during the art show or in the classroom, teachers know the value of Young Masters. "It's great for our students to see the different approaches and styles. It makes them appreci- ate their classroom teachers, also. They see we are knowledge- able about a lot of different processes," says Tess Jacobs, an art teacher at C.M. Russell High School. She has been involved with Young Masters since its first year.
