Fulcher says, "First they learn how to DO their product, then they learn how to market their product by making something like a brochure." It can be unnerving to display your art for others to scrutinize. So feel free to strike up a conversation with an artist. Share your thoughts and it will put both of you at ease. Tip #3: Ask Artists for their Business Cards Last year, 4,000 people visited the Living and Design Show and Fulcher hopes that number will gorw this year. "Part of the appeal of our show is finding custom pieces. A lot of artists may not sell something at the show but they're going to get a commission from the show: someone sees their art and likes their style. I want people to come in and don't be afraid to ask for the artist's card. Just because the table you see is $6,000.00 doesn't mean every table he makes is $6,000.00! He's going to bring his top-dog to the show to display the quality of work he can produce," says Fulcher. Tip #4: There's Even More Custom Options Yes, maybe you arrived with the idea of buying a table. But maybe you didn't quite find what you had in mind. "Then there's vendors here like the Good Wood Guys. They provide the wood for the vendors carving and designing the wood. So it's also a great place to find a giant slab of wood," says Fulcher. You can then take the wood to an artist you've enjoyed and commission them to make a custom piece out of wood you chose yourself! Tip #5: Expect the Unexpected New this year is the Fashion Walk combining live and mannequin models. "We have mannequins being dressed up by people in town. I want to bring the community into the shows. I want them to know that just because the show exhibits custom furniture and custom clothing, we have people in town with high quality products," says Fulcher. Finding he needed a woman's touch to raise enthusiasm for the Fashion Walk, Fulcher handed over this portion of the show to Lorell Heckman and Tia Dear. He guarantees viewers will not be bored! the great western living and design show
