POEM Twas The Night After Christmas Twas the night after Christmas, and all through the rink Not a cross-ice Mite was stirring, not even a Little Star's skate clink. The hockey socks were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that the Kettler Ice Complex would stay open out there. The children got dressed in locker room eight, While visions of scoring goals danced in their heads. And the manager had the jerseys and the coach had his helmet, Had just walked out of the locker room for a long Jamboree. When out on the ice there arose such a clatter, The fans all stood up to see what was the matter. Away to the bench I flew like a flash, The Southern Maryland Sabres took the ice in a mad dash. The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow, Gave the luster of night to objects below. When what to my wondering eyes should appear, But some Little Stars to help feed the reindeer. A wink of an eye and a twist of his head The Little Stars and Sabres had nothing to dread. They spoke not a word and went straight to work Passed, shot, and scored then turned with a jerk. And laying on the ice was a big blue puck Which they chased and chased and with just a little luck, They would shoot and score And yelled 'give me some more.' And after the game I heard someone exclaim Happy hockey to all, and to all a good night.
