Do you think you'll have more
racing-related creative
output in future?
I would love to. There's actually a song
about horse racing on the new 'Delines' re-
cord that's coming out later this year. I used
to write so much about racing that it would
drive the guys in my band crazy, so now I've
eased off a bit. I still write short stories
about racing once in a while for fun.
Like I said, I've become a bit conflicted
about horse racing because I just couldn't
take the dark moments. But there are also
these great moments of joy. And what part
of life doesn't have a bit of light and shade
to it?
The movie version of Lean On Pete will be
in US theatres April 6, 2018. Willy Vlautin's
latest novel is entitled Don't Skip Out on Me
