Sizzling Basin To get to our next stop, we will drive along the shore of 5 Yellowstone Lake, turn north, and follow the Yellowstone River toward Sizzling Basin. Here, the springs have names such as Black Dragon's Caldron, Sour Lake, and Dragon's Mouth. They are not as beautiful or as colorful as those we saw earlier. These springs contain dark-gray or dark-brown colored water that bubbles, sloshes, and boils. The dark color of the water comes from chemicals found in the rocks. Be sure to hold your nose! The air smells like sulfur—the smell of rotten eggs. The smell comes from gases mixed with the bubbling water, and bacteria. Scenic view 14
