We believe libraries—whether school, public, academic, or special—provide exceptional value to the patrons they serve. It is now more important than ever that we engage our customers from around the world in order to discuss how libraries can show demonstrable value. While every library is unique, a few familiar problems seem to arise frequently. Librarians want to know: How can the library help the university succeed when faculty and student usage is low? How can we tell the story of what we offer to our community and the difference we make? How can we develop 21st-century learners when school library programs are cut? You asked, and we listened. Here are but a few of our answers to how we can work together to create meaningful outcomes for libraries and their users: Academic librarians: You can now support student achievement and drive usage of your resources better than ever before, thanks to our new curriculum alignment service, which directly maps your Gale holdings to courses, faculty research, and syllabi (pg. 105). To further support advanced learning, we're paving the way toward new research opportunities in the digital humanities field for data mining and text analysis by making available the content from our Gale Digital Collections (pg. 104). Public librarians: You can make a lasting economic impact on your communities and change the lives of your patrons by awarding high school diplomas through Career Online High School (pg. 24). You can now also unlock your library's insights and understand who is—or isn't—in your community with Analytics on Demand, the first affordable solution to deliver the power of big data analytics to libraries (pg. 5). School librarians: You can demonstrate how the school library supports national and state standards by intertwining its programs with those of the school faculty via Classroom in Context (CLiC), a digital curriculum that utilizes our award- winning In Context resources (pg. 82). Our commitment to libraries extends beyond our products and services. Visit mystory.gale.com, which is dedicated to celebrating the differences you make in the lives of your patrons each and every day. While you're there read our library story, too, which celebrates the life of Gale founder Fred Ruffner. For over 60 years, we at Gale have been committed to library advocacy. Together we can show the world just how much we all need these vital pieces of our global community, how much we all need libraries. Paul A.
