September / October 2015 22 Front headlights. The headlights can also be removed easily. The reason to remove them is clean the inside edges where the light housing meets the body and to clean the bumper under the housing. To remove light housing first find the socket wrench in the tool bag located behind the spare tire to remove the light. 1. Pull down side carpeting beside headlight. 2. Remove large round rubber plug from the unlocking opening. Place socket wrench from tool kit on the unlocking spindle. The tongue of the wrench should point horizontally to the rear. 3. Turn wrench approximately 180 degrees to the front. The headlight is now unlocked and can be pulled forward out of the fender. On Litronic headlights, disconnect the electrical plug connection. (To do this, press the unlocking tab and pull the plug off). 4. Turn wrench back so that it points vertically down. Now that you have the light housing out: 1. Wax around the edge of the fender and bumper to remove any old wax and dirt buildup. 2. If this is the first time you have had the light out the area under the light housing will be dirty, clean and wax it.(see picture 8) 3. Now clean the light itself back and front with Windex so that it looks new. (see picture 9) To reinstall the light housing: 1. Insert it back into the guide rails. 2. On Litronic headlights, connect the electrical plug harness. 3. Push headlight to the rear and at the same time turn the socket wrench until it points horizontally to the rear. (The headlight locking device must perceptibly and audibly engage). 4. Check headlight for a firm seating by pulling it in the area of the direction indicator light. 5. Insert rubber plug back and secure carpeting. Check the function of the light.
