SHORTCUTS CARMEL CONFIDENTIAL Racing Fans Fuel Local Economy G rammy-winning singer, songwriter and gui- tarist Peter Frampton comes through Carmel in March, on an extension of his first-ever acoustic- only tour. "Peter Frampton Raw, An Acoustic Tour" stops at the Sunset Center on Tuesday, March 15, at 7:30pm. Frampton's 1976 release "Frampton Comes Alive" is one of the biggest-selling live albums of all time, with more than 16 million copies sold world- wide. Before co-founding Humble Pie as an 18 year old, Frampton was the lead singer and guitarist for the British pop group The Herd. He has played with George Harrison, Ringo Starr, David Bowie, Jerry Lee Lewis and others. Joining Frampton during his March show are Gordon Kennedy, who co-produced Frampton's Grammy Award-winning album "Fingerprints," and Frampton's son, the singer and guitarist Julian Frampton. Proceeds benefit the Beacon House, a Monterey Peninsula rehabilitation facility. For details and tickets, which start at $80 each, visit the Sunset Center website at www.sunsetcenter.org. Peter Frampton Unplugged at Sunset Center M azda Raceway Laguna Seca wel- comed more than 234,900 guests during five major events of the 2015 racing season. Non-Monterey County attendees contributed $62.1 million to the local economy through direct spending, says a recent study commissioned by the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP) and completed by California State University Monterey Bay. Approximately 82 percent of race attendees were from outside of Monterey County and another 4 percent were international guests, researchers found. That translated to $13.8 million spent on lodging in Monterey County, or 53,558 total room nights. Fans spent another $18.6 million on food and dining, $12.3 million on retail purchases and $8.9 mil- lion on local enter tainment (including ticket sales). Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca's major 2016 races kick off April 29 through May 1 with the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix.
