The glossary, launched in 2014, is available for free use by anyone in the agriculture industry. It is designed to promote efficient and effective commu- nication between all segments of agri- culture, including industry, govern- ment, and academia. The glossary is a one-stop location in the form of an online wiki for agricul- ture terms, definitions, acronyms, key words, and synonyms. It pulls from a number of established industry sources and includes government definitions for key terms, from field and produc- tion to irrigation and pump. Recently, the glossary has benefited from the addition of terms and defini- tions from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) based on their published stan- dards. In addition, the Farm Financial Standards Council (FFSC) has begun to contribute financial terms and defin- itions, which are critical to the establish- ment of a common understanding of fi- nancial terms and definitions used in agriculture. The glossary came about because many people in agriculture were experiencing communication challenges due to mul- tiple definitions for a single term or phrase. That confusion can impact the ease of development of effective ag tech- nologies and software. It saves a great deal of time when everyone can confirm that they're using the same vocabulary, with the same meanings. One of the its strengths is that a core of its content has been contributed by au- thoritative third-party sources, such as the US Department of Agriculture Risk Management Agency and AgGateway. In addition, its unique hierarchical au- thorization structure allows for one def- inition for a term to take precedence over another according to the con-
