including each of us taking
turns getting out to push the
car, we backed down the pass
for nearly a mile. Finally, we
reached a point where the
grade was a bit closer to level
and the oxygen density was
sufficient for the little engine
to achieve forward motion.
We built as much speed in
low gear as possible and
kept the pedal to the medal,
while praying we would not
encounter another car coming
towards us. Luckily, we did
not meet another car on the
pass and reached the summit
after achieving dizzying
speeds as high as 5 to 8 mph.
9. Cars growing up that you
had fun with?
I would start with a purple
and white 1955 Ford
Convertible, complete with
pink and white interior, the
spinner hubcaps, full fender
skirts, dual exhausts and a
loud "wolf whistle" attached
to the intake manifold?
Later a burgundy 1965
Mustang convertible, a 1967
burgundy Cutlass Supreme
convertible provided me
wonderful memories. Other
highly enjoyable rides were
a concours winning 1966
Austin Healey 3000 Mk III
which I owned in England.
10. What was your nickname
in high school?
My legal first name is
Albert and "Mike" has been
my nickname for reasons
unbeknown to me!
11. What would you like
your next Porsche to be?
Is there such a thing as
being content with what
you have? I think that I am
nearly there, thanks to a very
understanding wife and a
lift in our garage! Actually,
I would probably opt to go
retro and enjoy experiencing
a red 356 Cab like the one of
my buddy's owned in 1964.
12. If you won the lottery
what would be the top 3 cars
you would own?
1. 356 Porsche Cab,
2. Austin Healey 100 M
3. Jaguar 4.2 XKE Cabriolet
(British Racing Green)
