Transforming from cramped to bright, from builder-grade to
luxury, this remodeled kitchen not only improved the form and
function of the space but also added energy and interest to
the homeowner's daily life. Designer Lauren Levant began by
relocating the garage entry door to improve the layout and
allow for the addition of a continuous wall of cooking
equipment and storage.
The large range is flanked by ample refrigeration and
balanced by a deceptively shallow pantry, which conceals
existing and immovable ductwork.
The addition of a massive center island added work and
storage areas that allowed her to transform the remaining wall
with floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with light.
Among a combination of unique finishes is a locally crafted
natural-steel hood with a natural mill-scaled patina of blues
and grays; a combination of textured laminate and high-gloss
on the cabinetry; and a monolithic glass backsplash edge-lit
by embedded LED lights.
