M O D E R N A R T
The homeowner's sophisticated knowledge of
art and the preference for modern design
combine in this master suite remodel. The
inspiration is most visible in an accent wall
behind the free-standing bathtub interpreted as a
large-scale art piece, an effect furthered by light-
colored tiles on the wall behind it and the art-
gallery-like spotlights. Clean lines, avant-garde
fixtures, and a neutral color palette throughout
complete the modern design theme. The open
shower features a partition wall that defines its
border, with two entries at each end forming a
U-shaped passage. Accessibility features
include the placement and size of interior doors
and a centralized lighting control system. —K.T.

CLASSIC PAIRING
The classic duo of black and white combine with
luxurious accents in this Philadelphia bath remodel. The
two colors interplay expertly, including details such as
black grout accentuating white subway tile, black
faucets against white countertops and walls, and a
black-painted ceiling alongside the bright skylight.
Natural walnut in the vanity and gold accessories add an
element of warmth to the simple color scheme. The
designers doubled the size of the bathroom by
eliminating an adjacent spiral staircase and partition
wall. The team also removed the existing ceiling to
expose the true angle of the roofline, a move that further
increased volume while adding a striking spatial change
and allowing for the addition of the skylight. —K.T.
