HRO Today Forum Europe What was the catalyst for the explosion and acceptance of cloud-based solutions? Cloud-based applications have really accelerated over last five years as confidence has grown in the technology and its offerings. Salesforce led the march for organisations to see the value and benefit of SaaS technology. Older application-based customer relationship management tools were basically databases used for reporting through traditional methodologies. It was a slow process— very time consuming for employees to be trained and then to use. Cloud-based offerings accelerated the process so that any employee could have access to better functionality via the web. One of the main benefits of the cloud is the lack of variable overhead since companies pay by month and/or by subscribers. Plus SaaS allows subscribers to receive individual upgrades and regular updates. It also provides small to medium-sized companies—who often can't afford an IT department—a chance to get in the game.
