Warm Embrace
Guest comfort and relaxation were the
primary goals of this powder room by
designers Lori Carroll and Alexander
Burch. To create a warm, inviting setting,
the team installed a wall of copper
porcelain tile above the sink, pairing it with
light-colored wood and a neutral paint to
give the room depth and drama. The
designers also removed the original light
fixtures and relocated the existing
electrical to accommodate an arched soffit
built into the ceiling above the vanity for
downlights. The shape of the custom
vanity and open shelf below mirror the
curve of the soffit. —A.H.
Moody Man Cave
Designer Sandra Diaz-Velasco used this bath's
location near the front entrance of the home as an
opportunity to create a statement for her bachelor
client, who desired something contemporary,
masculine, and uncluttered.
A sculptural black pedestal sink is the focal point,
placed against a backlit wall of white textured
stone tile. Bath accessories match the sink's
color, providing additional contrast. The striking
black and white pairing is flipped at the opposite
end of the space, where a white wall-hung toilet is
mounted to a painted black wall. A wall-length
mirror reflects light into the space, making it
appear larger. —A.H.
