The company is headquar- tered in Cologne, Germany, and manufactures specialty chemicals. Ingredion to purchase PureCircle Ingredion Inc., a plant-based ingre- dient supplier, and PureCircle, a stevia producer, have reached an agreement to allow Ingredion to purchase a controlling 75 percent stake in PureCircle. The proposed transaction has been approved by both companies' boards but still requires approval by PureCircle's shareholders. The companies expect the transaction to close in the sec- ond half of 2020. Lanxess donates disinfectant solution to hospitals, authorities, public institutions Lanxess AG has donated 10 metric tons of its highly effective disinfec- tant Rely+On Virkon to hospitals, authorities, and public institutions in 13 countries around the world. The powder disinfectant is diluted with water on-site and is enough for 1 million liters of disinfectant solution. It can be used to disinfect hard surfaces and equipment, like in hospitals for example. The donation was being given to countries where demand was high and where the product is registered, including Bra- zil, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland, Sing- apore, Spain, Thailand, and the US. face area. The greater surface area means that there's more opportu- nity for bacteria to hit the surface and rupture on the spot. The tech- nique might also be applied to metallic alloys that are also known to have antimicrobial properties. Rahim Rahimi, a Purdue assistant professor of materials engineering, and his team have been testing this technology on the surface of other metals and polymers to reduce the risk of bacterial growth and biofilm formation on devices such as ortho- pedic implants or wearable patches for chronic wounds. This would prevent the spread of infection and antibiotic resistance because anti- biotics wouldn't be needed to kill bacteria from an implant's surface.
