14 / January 2021 powderbulk.com PBE UPFRONT INDUSTRY NEWS Trinseo partners with Tyre Recycling Solutions Trinseo, Berwyn, PA, a global materials solutions provider and manufacturer of plastics, latex binders, and synthetic rubber, has agreed to partner with Tyre Recycling Solutions (TRS) on a com- mercial collaboration and equity investment in TRS. The collabora- tion agreement will include research and development, pooling com- bined technology expertise to help global tire manufacturers develop more sustainable tire formula- tions. The companies share a goal of developing new value- creating systems for tire manufacturing that reduce the environmental footprint and create a sustainable outlet for end-of-life tires. The investment aligns with Trinseo's 2030 sustain- ability goals, which outline the company's focus on tackling climate change, embedding sustainability in its product portfolio, promoting supplier and operational steward- ship, and embodying responsibility as an employer. TRS, Préverenges, Switzerland, was established in 2013 and cre- ates solutions for the collection, processing, and recycling of scrap tires through the development and implementation of innovative tech- nologies and business processes. The TRS water-jet milling pro- cess produces a high-performance powder for use as raw material in various industrial rubber products, applications, and compounds. Eagle Hemp announces mobile milling operation Eagle Hemp LLC, Tampa, FL, has announced the launch of its 4-t/h hemp milling operation in Lake- land, FL. The company will use the milling operation to mill hemp that were advised to stay indoors and away from the smoke by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. The fire's cause is under investigation. Carolina Poly's parent company Poly-America Inc. also experienced a massive fire only 6 days earlier on August 18 in Grand Prairie, TX. The company produces products similar to those produced at the South Car- olina plant. The blaze continued for 23 hours and was fought by at least seven area fire crews. The fire was expected to smolder for days after the incident. In response to the two incidents, ATF offices in both Chester and Grand Prairie have been work- ing together to find the source of the fires. Soybean crushing plant planned for Iowa The Mid-Iowa Cooperative, a farmer- owned cooperative based in east-central Iowa, and Mike Kinley, chief executive officer of Mid-Iowa, are trying to create a new company called Shell Rock Soy Processing (SRSP) LLC. SRSP would build a new soybean crushing plant at the Butler Logistics Park northwest of Shell Rock, IA. The planned plant would be operational in 2022 and be able to crush 38.5 million soy- bean bushels on an annual basis. The plant would also create 50 to 60 jobs. Mid-Iowa would own a portion of SRSP, which will cost approxi- mately $270 million to build, and would help originate soybeans for the plant. Groundbreaking for the new facility was in October 2020 with Minnesota-based Fagen Inc. selected to provide engineering, procurement, and construction on the project. Once finished, the oper- ators plan for the plant to load and unload about 35 railcars and up to it purchases from farmers for use in hemp extraction. The company will also offer hemp milling for farmers for their own sales to other proces- sors, allowing for mobile milling at the farm site. Eagle Hemp spent a year designing a mobile hemp-milling operation. The system is mounted on a 53-foot custom-designed trailer that includes a generator to power the 100-horsepower mill and bagging system. The system allows hemp farmers to contract with Eagle Hemp to bring the mobile mill to the farm site where farmers can grind their hemp to a size suit- able for extraction. The resulting ground hemp can be put into bulk bags for bulk storage or secured in smaller bags with a nitrogen flush to preserve the hemp. The mobile system also has moisture-testing capabilities to ensure the hemp is stored properly. The system's mobil- ity allows farmers to keep control of their hemp crop until it's sold. Eagle Hemp is a hemp extractor and processor with an FDA- registered facility in Lakeland, FL, with state-of-the-art carbon dioxide extractors and proprietary process- ing to create cannabinoid oil. South Carolina plastics manufacturer, Texas parent company suffer massive fires Carolina Poly, located in Chester, SC, which produces trash bags, sheeting, silage bags, and shrink films, suffered a fire that started with stored plastics, rubber, and wood on August 24, 2020. The fire lasted nearly 25 hours and occurred between a nearby forest and Caro- lina Poly buildings. No employees were hurt, but five firefighters were hospitalized as a result of injuries sustained during the fire. About a dozen area fire crews helped to fight the fire, and local residents
