These four courses serve an estimated 3,500 golfers. Typically, about 60,000 rounds are played at Eagle Falls or Anaconda Hills each during the golf season, which runs from mid-March through October. About 35,000 rounds are played at Meadow Lark Country Club each year. There are also opportunities for young golfers to learn the sport and compete. Three of the Electric City's high schools offer teams, as does the University of Providence. Both city courses and Hickory Swing are busy for at least four months with men and women's league play. Hickory Swing also offers league play on a smaller scale. There are plenty of options when it comes to swimming in Great Falls. The Electric City Water Park is one the best ways to beat the heat but still have fun in the sun. Its attractions are nestled amidst mature shade trees and a large grassy area, and include Montana's largest outdoor swimming pool, bodyboarding on the Flow Rider, chillin' with a float down the Lazy River, and two 165-foot long water slides. There is also a wading pool and splash area in the Squirt Zone for the younger guests. Great Falls' two neighborhood pools, Water Tower Pool and Jaycee Pool, feature small slides and spray parks in relaxed community settings. When the temperature drops and the mountains start calling, head 65 miles south to Neihart and check out Showdown Montana. "Showdown is hands down, without a doubt the best place to learn," Dwayne Taylor, avid snowboarder and boarding instructor, said. "The terrain is nice and mellow with even progressions." Showdown might only be 640 acres, but it delivers. If big mountain skiing is what you're looking for, you won't have to travel far. Whitefish Mountain resort is a stunning four-hour drive through the southern reaches of Glacier National Park. Four hours south of Great Falls, Big Sky Resort boasts some of the most lavish skiing in the state. In fact, 10best.com named Big Sky the third best ski resort in the entire country. Great Falls isn't hurting for good ski locations. Whether you opt to shred local or make an easy day trip down to one of the state's bigger destinations, the city has you set up for a gnarly winter.
