48 / May 2021 powderbulk.com PBE SUPPLIERS' TIPS What features should I consider when choosing packaging machinery for food powders? P ackaging machinery typically includes a list of standard features and a list of available upgrades. When selecting packaging machin- ery for food powders, look for features that increase reliability, improve operator safety, and make the equipment easier to use, access, clean, and maintain. Select machinery manufacturers offer state-of- the-art remote-equipment-monitoring systems with Ethernet connected devices to maximize equipment uptime. These systems can allow the machinery manufacturer the ability to monitor your equipment health, operation, maintenance, and faults without needing to be on-site. Optional auto-lubrication sys- tems can also reduce maintenance time while extend- ing equipment life. It's critically important to understand how the machinery can be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Have the equipment supplier walk through each step of the process with you, noting the equipment access points, component weights, operator actions, and responsibilities. Investing time to understand how equipment features can benefit your operation can result in increased efficiency and improved profitability.
