Sesame to Join Allergens Labeled on Packaged Goods President Biden recently signed the Food Allergy Safety, Treatment, Education and Research Act into law. It will require that sesame—to which nearly 1.6 million Americans are allergic— be labeled on all packaged foods beginning January 1, 2023, and that food allergy research be given greater priority by the federal government. "The President's signing today of the FASTER Act is a major victory for the entire food allergy community across the nation," said Lisa Gable, CEO of FARE. "It was because of our champions and advocates that the FASTER Act was introduced, passed, and signed into law during President Biden's first 100 days in office." The Truffle Hunters Shadowing a group of Italian elders and their expertly-trained truffle dogs into the woods is rare, if ever experienced. Secrecy is part of the tradition, which sadly is close to extinction as younger generations fail to take over. Shot in the stunning region of Piedmont, Italy, "The Truffle Hunters," shortlisted for the Academy Award Documentary Feature category, gives us a peek into the mysterious world of hunting for the coveted white Alba truffle. The filmmakers follow the cycle from forest to plate, even giving us the dogs' perspectives from cameras attached to their snouts.—D.S. Plant-Based Hot Dogs at Nathan's Nathan's Famous, in partnership with plant-based food company Meatless Farm, has introduced a plant-based hot dog. Nathan's Famous Plant-Based Hot Dog by Meatless Farm is available exclusively on the Nathan's online retail portal on Shopify, and has rolled out to select locations. "As plant-based menu items continue to grow in popularity, we are excited to launch a gourmet, plant- based hot dog, a product created not just for our flexitarian, vegetarian, and vegan customers, but all who enjoy a healthier diet," said James Walker, senior vice president, restaurants, Nathan's, in a statement. "We've spent a great deal of time perfecting this hot dog and making sure that those who know and love Nathan's one-of-a-kind flavor, as well as those that might not have tried a Nathan's hot dog due to diet, can now enjoy an option that fits their lifestyle. We are looking forward to growing a new customer base with this partnership with Meatless Farm and know their high-quality ingredients are the way to deliver what our customers have come to expect of the original Nathan's Famous hot dog."
