6 / July 2021 powderbulk.com PBE LETTER FROM THE EDITOR T hey say the only constant in life is change and that's certainly true for industries that process, handle, and manufacture bulk solid materials. Technological advancements such as discrete element modeling, automation, and Industry 4.0 are changing the way companies design, operate, and monitor material processing and handling systems. The global pandemic has forced nearly every industry to rethink its supply chains and reconsider the balance between just-in-time inventory man- agement and just-in-case risk management. The urgency of climate change has moved energy efficiency, emissions control, and waste reduction from afterthoughts to absolutes. Powder and Bulk Engineering has undergone many changes as well in recent years as part of our ongoing commitment to provide readers with the most timely, practical, and accurate technical information in the indus- try. We've updated the look, feel, and functionality of our magazine, website, and twice-monthly e-newsletter PBE-News. We've also expanded our popular educational webinar schedule and developed partnerships with industry organizations such as Kansas State University's Bulk Solids Innovation Center. In our most recent change, PBE said goodbye to editor Jan Brenny, whose steady leadership helped keep the magazine on course during a period of great transition. We thank her for her dedication and wish her the best in the future. As the new editor, I welcome the challenge of carrying on PBE's mission while embracing the additional changes that are sure to come in the years ahead. I previously worked for PBE editing technical articles and columns before moving to PBE's sister publication Tablets & Capsules several years ago. I'm excited to be back working with our excellent editorial, production, audience development, and business staff as well as our industry-leading columnists, advisors, and other expert contributors. I welcome your input on how we can continue to improve the quality of our content or on aspects of the powder and bulk solids industry that we should be covering. We thank you for subscribing and making PBE part of your busy workday.
