COEUR D' ALENE SALE TO OFFER STUNNING ARRAY OF WESTERN & WILDLIFE ART The 28th Anniversary of the Coeur d' Alene Art Auction, set for July 27, will be held at a new location – The Peppermill Resort in Reno. With more than $200 million in sales over the last ten years, the event was hailed as "the biggest and most successful auction of western art" by the Wall Street Journal. This year's sale is certain to be the high point of the Western auction world. Coeur d' Alene has always been the market leader for works by S blue-chip artists such as Charles M. Russell and Frederic Remington. The largest number of paintings by Russell since 2008 will cross the block this year, headlined by Scouting Party, a magnificent 24x36 oil estimated at $2-3 million. Buffalo Hunt #27, estimated to bring $600,000-900,000; Indian Party, $500,000-700,000; and Cowboys on the Plains, $400,000600,000, are just a few examples of more than 15 works by the artist. One of the lowest numbered casts of Frederic Remington's iconic Broncho Buster in private hands will cross the block. Casting P O R T I N G C 202 L A S S I number 7 will be offered at $600,000-900,000, along with You Know This Thing Chief?, an iconic 19x27 gouache, $200,000-300,000. Historical paintings by another big name in western art include Frank Tenney Johnson's Sentinels in Moonlight, a 32x42 oil, $300,000500,000; Land Beyond the Law, $50,000-75,000; and a gem of a painting in Frank Ellis of the SMS Ranch, $200,000-300,000. Frank Ellis was a cowboy at the sprawling SMS Ranch in Texas. He became one of the artist's favorite models and has been featured in many of his finest paintings. C S
