Advancing the knowledge of airborne particles for more than 30 years, The Aerosol Society continues to deliver its series of focus meetings, training events, prizes, grants and an annual conference. Drug Delivery to the Lungs 2022 (DDL2022) will be presented December 7-9, in person, at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC). Awards and activities that support new talent DDL is proud to recognize and encourage new talent through our awards and activities: • e Pat Burnell Young Investi- gator Competition. Named in honor of one of the founders of the Aerosol Society, this show- case event will return again this year. Finalists for this prestigious award will have the opportunity to deliver a live presentation at DDL2022, with the winner being announced during the conference. • e DDL Emerging Scientist Award. Entries are welcome from researchers across the science and the development of inhaled medicines. For example, CMC, and clinical and device development topics appeal to both academia and industry. e following themes will be featured and contributions on these topics are encouraged: • Session 1. Planetary health. How can we lessen the environ- mental impact of the materials and processes we use to develop and manufacture inhaled drug products? • Session 2. Translational science. How do we manage risk during the development of new inhaled medicines? Case studies and examples of new science and tools to guide medicines devel- opment through non- clinical and clinical phases. • Session 3. Lung diseases. ere are numerous diseases that affect the airways. is session will provide insights into respi- ratory disease, novel treatments and the challenge of delivering drugs into diseased lungs. • Session 4. e Pat Burnell Young Investigator Competi- tion. Early career researchers will present their data from the podium in a dynamic, interac- tive forum. • Session 5. Technology innova- tion. Improvements in man- ufacturing technology and inhaler devices for delivering drugs to the lungs and systemic circulation. • Session 6. Novel formulation design and manufacture. How are new drug modalities driv- ing the needs for novel excipi- ents and innovation in the ways products are formulated? Drug Delivery to the Lungs 2022 (DDL2022) will be pre- sented Wednesday through Fri- day, December 7-9, 2022. After two years of delivering an online conference, the DDL commit- tee is delighted to be returning to the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) this year for a live, in-person event. In addition, recognizing that not all delegates may be able to travel, the committee is pleased to offer a live-streamed, virtual attendance option. As in prior years, the conference will feature rich scientific content, delivered through a mix of ple- nary and invited speakers, along with presentations selected from submitted conference papers. In addition, using a single conference stream eliminates difficult deci- sions as to which presentation to attend. Alongside the talks, exhi- bition and posters, there will be the usual warm hospitality and networking opportunities.
