6 From the President Pacific; and Jon Cassel, global director for Africa. Each of these fine men are charged with the responsibility to ex- pand CapMin in their respective theaters. In our quest to develop biblically solid disciple making ministries throughout the world, CapMin is still seeking men to fill the global director positions in the Caribbean and Asia. Overall, in terms of international expansion, as I write this, CapMin is in the process of planting 28 new foreign federal ministries. Local Government Ministries (LGM) has also flour- ished in both the United States and in foreign countries this year. CapMin has now planted ministries to city and county leaders in local communities in the states of California, Texas, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Oregon, Idaho, Missouri, and Ohio, as well as in dozens of prov- inces and territories in several European nations. By God's grace and His doing, we hope that this is only the begin- ning of our LGM initiative! Our prayer is that God will enable thousands of influential LGMs in partnership with local churches across our nation. In the United States alone, some 500,000 local civic leaders serve in 40,000 incorporated communities. All need disciple-making min- istries. LGMs are strategically important not only because good governance in America's communities is vital but also because research shows most state and federal leaders begin their political careers in city or county government seats. Discipling a political leader early and helping him develop a Christian worldview will influence and prompt biblical thinking throughout his career. Greatly contributing to the surge in LGM this year was my good friend Rick Perry, former secretary of the U.S. Department of Energ y, who stepped up to lead expansion efforts. In strategically placed advertisements in specific national Christian publications, Sec. Perry asked why the affinity sphere of political public servants is the most ne- glected mission field in America today, and he challenged believers to do something about that. ese advertisements continue to attract many poten- tial LGM ministry leader candidates. So far, 21 LGM ministry leaders have successfully completed CapMin's training and certification process, and 164 men are cur- rently being vetted for additional positions. The Jefferson Memorial "It is very beneficial for lawmakers to be involved in a serious Bible study. We should look to the Bible for examples of leaders. In fact, when Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel spoke to a joint session of Congress he looked up from the speaker's rostrum and saw Moses staring down at him. Here is the face of Moses who provided the law. Capitol Ministries Bible study has been very helpful to me personally. I enjoy the accountability of a weekly study that keeps us in the Word, as well as the interaction and fellowship with other members which is a real encouragement."
