Born on the Fort Peck Reservation in northeastern Montana, William Standing was a full-blood
Assiniboine who preferred his given name of Fire Bear. His drawings and paintings depicting life on
the reservation were both critical and humorous, and his work influenced and paved the way for many
Native American artists today.
"Insiders are also excited about seeing the work of Brooke Wetzel. She's a fun one to watch," says
Ron. A contemporary Montana-based artist, Wetzel celebrates her love of the outdoors in her
paintings by using the essence of light to play off the water and create brilliant sunsets, oen in scenes
depicting women recreating in wild places.
