FIRST PLACE / SECONDARY BATH
Midsummer Night — The design goal was
to create an elevated, inviting space for this
guest retreat that enhances the guest
experience, and a functional layout that
maximizes the use of a compact area.
Features that ensure ease of use for guests of
all ages and mobility and materials and
finishes that are durable and easy to clean
were also a consideration in the design.
Design Challenges:
• Small dark space on the interior of a
basement. No exterior windows, low
ceilings, concrete slab floor.
• Select materials that meet durability require-
ments and align with the design vision.
Design Solutions:
• Large-scale print wallcovering to create a
more expansive space. Create architectural
cove lighting to expand the ceiling height
visually.
• Walk-in shower with low curb and doorless
entry.
• Create a large shower niche between
framing and ducting.
• Floating vanity to utilize visual space.
• Layered lighting with ambient, task, and
accent lighting to create a warm, welcoming
atmosphere.
Special Features:
• A stylish wall-mount sink and an elegant
faucet to serve as focal points in the design.
• Install cutting-edge materials including
waterproof wallcovering technology.
