Unicorn Chooses to Tango Unicorn HRO is offering its employers a solution to the complex regulations of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The benefits, payroll, and HR solutions provider has announced its use and integration with Tango, an ACA compliance software-as-a-service (Saas) and solution provider. The most disconcerting results are those that demonstrate the challenges that organizations in the United States are facing regarding bridging skill gaps, engaging Millenials, and spurring innovation in the workplace. The most favorable responses were regarding the economic outlook in the US. These results are more optimistic than those in 2012, with 60 percent of organizations focusing on growth and 89 percent reporting that they will maintain or increase staffing levels in the next 12 months On the other hand, 78 percent of US HR professionals believe there is a skills gap within their organization, with most relying on informal feedback from managers, employees or customers to identify such gaps. The informal nature of this feedback presents a risk that training and development activity is not focusing on the competencies an organization really needs for its future success. Only 18 percent use formal research or gap analysis to identify these needs. Although many of the HR professionals predict growth within their organizations, they feel apprehensive about their Millennial workforce (18 A group of chief HR officers (CHRO) recently provided some unexpected responses to a new survey by Consero Group. Although there has been significant growth and development in wellness programming and there is increased use of social media in the workplace, the survey found that nearly half (47 percent) of Fortune 1000 CHROs believe that their wellness programs are not effective, and nearly half (47 percent) of the respondents reported that their organizations do not have a social media policy. The survey also found that 57 percent of the CHROs said their departmental budgets are not sufficient for them to perform their roles effectively and 43 percent said their departments do not have the talents needed to achieve their goals. While HR executives can play critical roles in identifying, vetting, and working with board members, just 20 percent of respondents said they were involved in selecting and coaching members of the board. In addition, 85 percent of respondents do not anticipate the Health Insurance Marketplace, for which most Americans became eligible for on October 1, having a significant impact on their benefits planning.
