4 FEDA News & Views Brad Pierce President Restaurant Equipment World brad.pierce@rewonline.com The President's Message I am often referred to as FEDA's "Technology President" so I thought I'd live up to my unofficial title and take a techie turn for this month's col- umn. I live my life on the go and use apps to keep moving forward without missing a beat. These are iOS apps for iPhone/iPad, though many have Android versions avail- able as well. Many of these sync to Dropbox, which maximizes efficiency by hav- ing the same content on all of your devices, a must-have functionality in my book. Without further ado, here's my list of favorite apps. Notesy – A fantastic built- in notes replacement. Type quick notes on the fly with only a few taps to get going with a new note. I use this app in every meeting I attend and love being able to quickly share my notes with colleagues. Notes automatically sync to Dropbox. Recorder App Pro – This app replaces the built-in voice recorder and is great for recording speeches or creat- ing voice memos. Recordings automati- cally sync to Dropbox. Pocket Informant – I've replaced the built-in calendar, reminder and task list apps with this all-in-one gem of an app. There are a massive number of cus- tomizations so the look and feel fits your individual preferences perfectly. All data entered in this app automatically syncs to your built-in apps as well as your Exchange/Gmail/Outlook/etc. accounts. PDF Expert – In my digital life, PDF's are king and PDF Expert is the best of the best for viewing and manipu- lating them. The app allows you to sign documents, annotate notes, highlight content, and more. I like using it so much that even when I'm in my office at my desk, I skip the pricey desktop app and reach for my iPad to use PDF Expert instead. This app automatically syncs PDF's and associated changes to Dropbox. Scanner Pro – Paper has no place in my life other than the recycling bin, yet we all continue to receive sheets of it. ScannerPro is the answer and turns any printed document into a digital PDF. This app has robust automatic edge detection capability that makes cap- turing a perfect image of a document a snap. The PDF's generated automati- cally sync to your Dropbox account. CamCard – This app magically turns business cards into typed content in your address book using highly accurate Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. The moment someone hands me a card, I take an image of it using this app and all of their information is popu- lated in entry dialog boxes.
