BOARD OF TRUSTEES Tina Tate Former Director, House Radio-TV Gallery Former Director, Media Relations, Newseum Ruth M. (Tina) Tate served as Director of the Radio and Television Correspon- dents Gallery of the House of Representatives from 1982 until her 2007 retirement. In 1972, she was the first woman to be hired for the Gallery staff. Tate is a native of Atlanta, Georgia and a graduate of Emory University. Employed by the House, but initially screened and recommended by a panel of broadcast journalists, she was respon- sible for all electronic media coverage of the House—from its floor proceedings to its commit- tees and its individual Members. During her years on the Hill, she oversaw and coordinated broad- cast coverage of State of the Union addresses, hearings, conference committees, press confer- ences, and "lie-in-state" ceremonies and funerals of Presidents and other prominent national figures. In addition, because she was seen as fair and nonpartisan, Tate supervised electronic media coverage at every Democratic and Republican convention between 1984 and 2004, assigning and allocating work space to networks and station groups as well as being in charge of credentialing thousands of reporters at each convention. Upon retiring from the House, she served as Director of Media Relations for the Newseum, helping to launch its new Pennsylvania Avenue location and its extensive coverage of the 2008 Inaugural.
