This position offers an opportunity for significant impact. The Lally School, which offers a strong intellectual foundation in innova- tion and technological entrepreneurship on which to build, has aggressive goals for growth in size, stature, and prominence in the global community of business schools. The Lally School also is well positioned to leverage the technical and interdisciplinary strengths of Rensselaer. The new Dean will join a broad new leadership team including the President, Provost, Vice President for Research, Dean of Engineering, and Dean of Science. Rensselaer recently has adopted a bold new strategic vision known as the Rensselaer Plan that has the overall goal of being a world-class technological research univer- sity with global reach and impact. This plan builds on the university's established strengths in scientific and techno- logical entrepreneurship, interdisciplinary inquiry, and interactive learning. It also calls for significantly expand- ing the research enterprise with major new investments in information technology and biotechnology. The Lally Dean will play a major role in executing the Rensselaer Plan and in the related capital campaign, while exploiting growth opportunities that build on Lally's core strengths in management and technology. The Dean is responsible for leading the school into national and international prominence through the pur- suit of excellence in research and educational programs. The Lally School focuses on the management opportunities and challenges associated with businesses that are driven by technology. The school's orientation is one of a strong interdisciplinary foundation among the faculty and the sense that most business innovation occurs where tradi- tional disciplines intersect. Through interactive learning environments and close affiliations with high-tech com- panies, students acquire a strong foundation of knowl- edge applicable to today's business world. The Rensselaer Incubator Program, Severino Center for Technological Entrepreneurship, and Rensselaer Technology Park pro- vide significant interaction between students and top researchers, real-world entrepreneurs and leading corpo- rate executives. Since 2000, research funding has doubled, 140 new faculty have been hired, and a $220 million capital construction program is underway. In September, Dr. Jackson and Rensselaer announced the largest capital campaign in the University's history, with a goal of raising $1 billion to support the endowment, faculty, students and campus infrastructure by the campaign's end in 2008.
